Avenatti Sentenced to 4 Years Prison for Defrauding Daniels
Disgraced attorney Michael Avenatti was sentenced for cheating his former client, adult film star Stormy Daniels, out of $300,000. He spent a full twelve minutes professing his guilt and apologizing, but the judge deemed it “too little, too late”.
Avenatti is facing a legal reckoning for years of bad behavior.
He is already in custody, facing 2 1/2 years for a 2020 convection for extortion, transmission of interstate communications with intent to extort and wire fraud in connection with threats he made against Nike, according to NBC News.
Avenatti notoriously rose to fame as the attorney for Stormy Daniels as she attempted to get out of a 2016 agreement to remain silent about her alleged affair with former President Donald Trump in return for $130,000.
During the height of his legal battle against Trump, Avenatti became a mainstream media darling, lauded by members of the press as being the “savior of the republic” and the “Holy Spirit”. At one point he even considered the idea of running for president.
Avenatti now awaits a retrial in a separate California case in which he is accused of stealing nearly $10 million from five clients.
