Los Angeles recently launched an initiative intended to improve public health, empower the destitute, and advance sanitation efforts in the epicenter of the city’s homeless crisis: Skid Row.
On Monday, Democratic Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the formation of the Skid Row Clean Team — a new street cleaning program targeting the roughly 54-block area best known for rat-infested piles of garbage, a typhus outbreak, and sidewalks lined with tent encampments. He said the new project currently employs “about two dozen” homeless and formerly homeless individuals to help pick up the trash in their neighborhood.
Garcetti maintained that the team members are all determined to make a better life for themselves, adding, the endeavor is “just as much about cleaning the streets as it is about lifting up the people who live on them.”

The workers were hired and primarily trained by the contracting organizationUrban Alchemy and are not city employees. According to KFI Radio, they are paid “$15 an hour or more.” The minimum wage in L.A. increased to $14.25 an hour last month for businesses with more than 25 employees.

There are no productive jobs for these middle aged alcoholics because we have 20 million illegal aliens doing more work for less money. Some of them might starve before working for food but most will work. And many of them will gain great satisfaction from earning their keep.
Reason many temporary refugee status get subsistence if salary is minimum wage in some states. Remember when Obama told us on TV that temporary refugees and illegals get no benefits then gave them child credit return on social security when they paid nothing into it. Think about it, democrats, communist and the morons want open borders, one group for voters, another for a revolution, and the las are just plain stupid brain washed nitwits. Democrats wish to force open borders upon us and tax us to death to support the idea. It is absolutely madness or a plan to totally self destruct when over whelmed by countless millions to give benefits to. Absolute insanity total madness by the democrats.

How many homeless are there? This article says the new project hires about 2 dozen homeless or formerly homeless people. While that sounds OK for the 24 people they are employing, it hardly solves the employment problem for the other thousands of homeless people who are making the mess these 24 people are cleaning up.
Paying the people who made the mess to clean it up brilliant!

Not sure about LA, but in the majority of the major cities in this country trash removal and street cleaning are handled by either unionized city employees or unionized private refuse companies (Waste Management and Republic being examples). What is the pay rate? A Waste Management refuse truck driver makes $60,000/yr, is that the rate of pay about $29.00/hr is that what the mayor is planning to pay? If he doesn’t pay that, isn’t he discriminating against the homeless?
AND undercutting the unions (AFSME). Maybe the unions should stop supporting these Demoncrap politicians.
Good luck! Reminds me of when my dad and mom had a hotel bar. It was Holliween. We had a 6 holer out house and it got tipped over.My dad got the guys in the bar to go out and turn it back up and then gave them a free drink After the 2nd time he realized it was the same guys tipping it over to get free drinks! If picking up trash works out the trash personal will pay the people to keep littering so they can keep working!

To me it is a step in the right direction. Pay them by the amount of trash they collect and clean up the city. It might help some and make them interested in working for a living, instead of living on skid row. Everyone they help is one saved.
I don’t trust or believe anything that the Mayor or Governor say these Democrats are only interested in making this a Sanctuary City and getting the New Democratic Voters from the the Illegals coming to California
