Article from The Daily Wire by Josh Hammer.
The Office of the Inspector General (IG) at the Social Security Administration (SSA) has released a March 2019 internal audit that sought to determine whether the SSA has been doling out benefits to dead people in Maryland and Michigan. The answer, as it turns out, is a resounding “yes.” Overall, the IG found that the SSA had paid out nearly $42 million to about 500 dead people.
The Daily Caller reports:
The SSA identified 160 individuals who had possibly died, with 57 from Michigan from 1971 through 2010 and 103 from Maryland from 1979 through 2015. Around $16.9 million in payments were issued to 145 individuals who reportedly died in these states. The remaining 15 were alive.
There was an instance where a woman received payments for a person who died in 2000 and used it for personal benefit. She pleaded guilty for theft and was required to pay nearly $170,000 back to SSA. Another person also received Social Security benefits that was posted under the deceased person’s record since 1997. The beneficiary had died in 1974.
As The Daily Caller also notes, a separate Texas-specific SSA audit found that nearly $25 million in Social Security payments had been given to 336 dead Texans.

Ironic that this is the same government proffered to us as stewards of our health. Absurd.
dems in congress wasting millions on hoax investigations and other government agencies showing they have no idea what they are doing with taxpayer money. Wow we are so lucky to have all these agencies including fbi, cia, doj etc looking out for us.
if the US government was a real business,it would fail in a very short period of time because it is run by a
bunch of MORON politicians who don’t know the first thing about business management. They are all idiots
who when elected look to do nothing but line their pockets from interest groups and the hell with the american voter.
I worked two or three jobs while teaching for 38 years. I even worked jobs under SSA after I retired. My SS was modified due to stupid tax act of 1986. Now after subbing in schools for over 18 years, I have earned 10 plus years credit in Colorado PERA. If I retire, age 85, I have to draw my PERA. If I take my PERA I will lose my SSA. What a stupid, ignorant bunch we have in
Government. Why should workers be penalized for working and paying taxes. I learned about SSA in college and determined I would have SSA and STRS when I retired. I love the students and earned my PERA. Whgy should I be penalized for working??? Call your Senators, Please. Repeal Tx ACt of 1986.
If you want a task to be screwed up, give it to a govenment agency!
Please audit my state, California, and all the sanctuary cities around the nation, and every city/area where the police to not honor ICE detainers, and every place where the characteristics of the 500 and 338 matches. We need to stop giving SS checks to frauds and redirect that money to building the wall and removing all those non-citizens who are on the government dole.
I often read the “rooms wanted” in Craigslist for comedy relief. Some of the posts are just too funny. However many are infuriating. These are the ones by young people claiming “they’re good for the rent because they get monthly SSI. Why are they getting SSI? These parasites are often in their mid 20s so they can’t be getting survivors benefits for children. Are they disability benefits? Probably so and I am sick of seeing the SS that all working people paid into as supplemental income AFTER retirement going to people like this.
