A federal judge said the government violated the due process rights of an asylum seeker after he was detained for nearly three years without a bail hearing.
The ruling was seen by legal experts as a stern rebuke of the Trump administration’s immigration policies, according to The New York Times.
“This nation prides itself on its humanity and openness with which it treats those who seek refuge at its gates,” Judge Alvin Hellerstein of federal District Court wrote in his opinion, the Times reported.
“By contrast, the autocracies of the world have been marked by harsh regimes of exclusion and detention,” he continued. “Our notions of due process nourish the former spirit and brace us against the latter.”

Democrats cannot count to three. Moron does not remember that three years ago the jerk in the White House was Obama, not Trump. When will they ever, if ever, begin to lay blame for Obama’s screw ups at the Obama doorstep? And this butt wipe is a Federal Judge?
Held in detention for three years. Was that first year not under the Obama administration? And if so why did they not give a more speedy trial? But now you blame President Trump. Apparently, the Judge can’t count accurately. Granted, 3 years w/o a bail hearing is a long time, but President Trump has been in office less than 2 years. So, it begs the question, “Who was President when the illegal alien was first detained?” Give you 3 guesses, and the first two don’t count.
Agree Obama used tear gas, separated families .and it looks like did not provide bail. The news blames it all on President Trump because the do not want a UNITED STATES theywant open world.
Illegal aliens do not deserve a damn thing tbey came here illegally and should be not be detained,they should be deported automatically within hours or days of apprehension.
Hey Judge Obama was president three years ago. Non citizens do not get due process they are foreigners.
Detained for three years? That takes us back to the Obama Presidency. How can this be a rebuke of Trump when it was Obama that imprisoned this guy?
The liberal judge does not distinguish between legal and illegal migrants. The judge should be in favor of upholding the rule of law.
