Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said his colleague Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is “dangerously naive” to draft an authorization for the use of military force (AUMF) against North Korea if President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un fail to reach a diplomatic agreement.

“In the midst of this historic opening that President Trump has orchestrated, for Lindsey Graham to say he wants to declare war on North Korea is terribly naive, wrongheaded and the wrong way to go,” Paul said on “America’s Newsroom” on Wednesday.

He acknowledged that the U.S. engages in diplomatic discussions with the threat of implied force and the implied weight of the U.S. military behind the president.

“But to explicitly, in the middle of negotiations, to say he wants to declare war on North Korea is terribly naive and counterproductive,” Paul said.
