Ron Paul: Guns Are Deeper Than Politics
Article from the Ron Paul Institute by Ron Paul.
Another terrible school shooting took place in Parkland, Florida last week and unfortunately many politicians and pundits have used the tragedy – as they often do – to push their own agenda. Many will use the tragedy to argue that Americans should be prohibited from owning guns. As if anti-gun laws would dissuade a disturbed or violent individual intent on causing harm. Those intent on mass murder don’t obey gun laws.
It’s unfortunate that while many are quick to demand that guns be taken away from peaceful Americans, they don’t seem to have much to say about guns when they’re in the hands of government authorities shooting innocent people. If we need any gun control, it is to get control of the guns in the hands of thousands of government employees who use them against innocent people with impunity.
For example, why do those calling for more gun control remain silent when armed federal agents raid Amish farms to stop them from selling raw milk? This shows the hypocrisy of those who call for restrictions on private firearms ownership while supporting the use of government violence as a means of controlling our lives.
Unfortunately there are many key questions lost in the race to score political points from the shooting.
Why does it always seem that the shooter in these mass killings has been on some kind of psychotropic drugs? As the New American magazine pointed out this week, at least ten high profile mass shootings have been committed by individuals who “were either on — or just recently coming off of — psychiatric medications.” The young killer in Florida was no different. According to his aunt, he had been on these medications to treat mental problems.
Why is no one questioning these medications – all of which come with labels warning of horrific side effects? Perhaps one reason they are ignored is that the pharmaceutical industry spends billions of dollars lobbying Congress.
Also, how is it possible that the FBI once again missed so many obvious clues that a violent person intent on causing massive harm to others was about to strike? Is the FBI actually this incompetent, or perhaps its focus was in other areas — like meddling in our own elections by presenting “evidence” they knew was flawed to the FISA court to get permission to spy on the Trump campaign?
We’ve heard many stories of how alert FBI field agents tried to alert their bosses before 9/11 that foreigners were taking flight lessons but were not interested in learning how to land the planes.
Is giving the federal government more power to spy on us – as they demand – the answer to stop these terrible crimes? Hardly!
Those who think that giving federal authorities greater surveillance powers might prevent mass shootings should consider that the FBI has been alerted that the latest school shooter had made Facebook posts and YouTube comments talking about his intention to be, as he put it, “a professional school shooter.” But the Bureau failed to properly investigate the tips. If the FBI fails to stop someone who openly boasts about their intentions on social media why should we believe that giving them the power to snoop on every American would increase our safety?
We cannot stop tragedies like this by banning guns. We need to look seriously into the psychotropic drugs that more and more Americans are being prescribed. We need to demand that our elected Representatives demand a real day of reckoning at the FBI. We need to keep focused and ignore those who politicize such events.

Makes sense to me.
Devil take the double talking, mealy mouthed idiots.
I used to always carry at least one firearm when out and about in Chicago. I even took them to church, just in case I could not handle the numbers of atheists who would try to disrupt our Christmas Services. I saved two lives with my guns. Let the civilians like myself quietly handle the problem.
In Chi- Town I would not consider a flak jacket and steel pot as being overdressed.
Normally I would discount Ron Paul because as he is pretty politically “fringe” noting his thoughts on drugs in general. But he is “absolutely on point” this time. The government claims all background information is destroyed after 90 days. THAT IS PURE BS. The FBI database has information on every legal gun purchase made since background checks were initiated. What they don’t have is information on every individual that has had any type of mental health treatment as simple as being prescribed “anti-depressants”. That type of information is critical to dealing with most violent crimes. According to reports Cruz legally purchased his weapons meaning he was background checked. When asked if he had any mental issues of course he said “NO”. I doubt very much that question is even answered in the affirmative. That is like asking a drunk if they have a drinking problem. Doctors and pharmacists must be made accountable for providing that information to the FBI as well.
That is a HIPA Violation. Medical records are protected, and rightfully so. You have to draw the lie somewhere and I draw it at my blood pressure pills.
The law is that the record of gun purchases be destroyed. However, the Congress intentionally left out any DATE or TIME requirement. So the bureaucrats, never of a mind not to keep record of our arms, keeps the records. However, all it tells them is that we purchased a hand gun or a long gun. And they have NO way of knowing if we make private sales. That is what they are now trying to prevent. The goal is complete and total registration. So when the elite tell them to come get our guns, they will know exactly where they are.
The secondary end game is confiscation.
The primary end game is murder of all who resist them
Maybe, just maybe, the problem lies closer to home. A couple of generations ago, almost all of the people who were raising kids actually took the time and effort to
raise them–to honor God and country, to be polite, etc.
I’ve been hearing this for the past twenty or thirty years–especially from respected teachers: we can’t raise these children, neither can the police, or anyone else except their own parents, and most of those are so busy doing everything else but, that the kids are having to try to raise themselves.
If the parents won’t, or can’t, raise their own children, you can bet that the television set with all its sex and violence, surely will.
Our blessed Lord stands ready to help any and all of us who will but ask Him for guidance. We, as parents, must be willing to devote as much time and effort to
preparing our children “for the road” as anything else we do. When that begins
to happen, they won’t be angry and frustrated enough to “shoot up the place”
the way they’ve been taught by the television, including the so-called “evening news”.
Right. It takes a village … to raise an idiot. But it takes two loving parents to raise a child. And if they do so in concert with the Holy Spirit, they might even raise a mensch.
It is so sad children today are plugged into the TV to watch color flash cartoons for hours on end ! It’s the poison that creates a mind that cannot focus on one thing for more than a few seconds ! Bombarded with constant changing images is programming the mind to be completely out of order, but parents just keep sticking Johnny in front of the TV . All these young people following a broadcasted narrative that our president is bad and not fit to be president by the media will be, left for dead if the country falls to the Democratic position they are pushing for ! Lost , repressed , unnecessary, ridiculous, victims of a government that fully intends to destroy our freedom !
The FBI has been for years destroying people because they have been allowed to do so without answering to anyone .I am reminded of a 15 year old girl who was the victim of a Washington elite who arranged children for sexual abuse to those in Washington .The FBI put her in women’s prison ( not one for children ) and let the pedofile go for money laundering charges never mind the 1000 ‘s of children he ruined .
