Rene Boucher is going to the big house for attacking Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that the left wing assailant has pleaded guilty to the charge of assaulting a member of Congress, and federal prosecutors will recommend a sentence of 21 months in prison. Boucher made headlines last year when he tackled Paul at his home while the Senator was cutting his grass. His attorneys then claimed that the dispute stemmed from grass clippings in is yard.

The bloggersphere didn’t buy that answer, because after all, who attacks a Senator over grass clippings? PJMedia’s Tyler O’Neal did some Facebook snooping and established that there was more to Boucher than meets the eye. “This little investigation confirmed that the Rene Boucher who attacked Rand Paul is also the Rene Boucher who reposts anti-Trump memes and stories, and shares posts from Bernie Sanders. Boucher shared a meme from ‘Proud Liberals’ calling Trump a liar. In May, he shared a post from the page “Impeach Trump, Impeach Pence, Keep Impeaching.” He shared a photo of the Time magazine cover with the White House turned into the Kremlin. He quoted an ex-CIA official who called Trump the ‘Sissy in chief.’ ”

Rene Boucher inflicted the second instance of political violence on Rand Paul in 2017. In the summer, James Hodgkinson attempted to murder Senator Paul and gravely wounded Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) when he opened fire on Congressmen on an Alexandra ball field; Hodgkinson was also a supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). The rising tide of political violence touched Senator Paul, but his assailant is going to pay for it when many on the left do not.
