Senator Rand Paul has found an ally in President Donald Trump.

“Today’s a big day, Trump is doing what I believe is the biggest free-market reform of healthcare in a generation,” Paul said at the signing. “I’m very glad to be a part of this and I really want to commend the president for having the boldness and the leadership and the foresight to get this done.”

As Republicans fail to unite on a healthcare bill, Trump has taken matters into his own hands and signed an executive order Thursday seeking to expand access to cheap insurance over state lines, a solution Paul has been collaborating with Trump on for the last nine months.

“At 11:15 a.m. Eastern today, U.S. Senator and physician Rand Paul attend President Trump’s signing of an executive order regarding expanding access to Association Health Plans, a press advisory from Paul’s office said.
