Article from USA Today by Dalvin Brown.
As Hurricane Florence barreled toward the Carolina coast, Tammie Hedges took action to protect pets that might have otherwise been caught in the storm – a decision that led to her arrest.
Hedges, a resident of Wayne County, North Carolina, was taken into custody Friday after providing care to more than two dozen animals – 17 cats and 10 dogs – for owners who had to evacuate before the storm hit.
…
On Monday, after Florence passed, Hedges got a call from Wayne County Animal Control regarding the animals.
…
“A few days later they called me in for questioning and yesterday they arrested me,” Hedges said.

NOW you need a permit to be a good Samaritan???? WHAT KIND OF WORLD has this become????
A NWO Marxist nanny state world. If I were hereI go get me a good shot barreled 12 Ga. Solves nanny state problems, PERMANENTLY.
God bless this wonderful woman and God damn the “animal control assholes that should have been saving the dogs and cats instead of borrowing trouble. 10 bucks says the assholes voted for the cackling witch. – Fire them all and close their department. It’s obvious they are not out there to help anybody, Who needs them?
Government! And – I’ll bet it is run by caring compassionate demorats.
I sent the article to President Trump!
Looks like Wayne County needs a changing of the guards.
They should have just gone, gotten the animals, and THANKED her for her help! What narrow sighted AS$%&@les.
Anyone who either trusts the government to do the right thing or its brain dead bureaucrats to even be able to employ reason or common sense need only consider the sheer magnitude of “we had to destroy the village to save it” or in this case “we would rather animals die than allow a Samaritan without a permit to save their lives…” These idiots should be unemployed–they have NO functioning brain–Let them walk down the middle of the freeway during rush hour and cull a few!
Bureaucrats are the bain of citizens in the great country. They do nothing but gum-up the works. Even the simplest of jobs becomes overwhelming to a citizen when it gets into the hands of a bureaucrat.
When I moved from one state to another, I had to provide my birth certificate, insurance, inspection and car title to get a simple driver’s license. I had a driver’s license from the state I moved from, but that wasn’t good enough for the bureaucrats in charge.
A law suit against local authorities might well be appropriate.
When I first posted the above, it was rejected as having been said before. I do not recall having posted previously, though perhaps I had forgotten. Please clarify, as I now note my comment appears above. Might there be a problematic time lag here?
How ridiculous this woman was being a good Samaritan. People left their pets behind, some homeless & they would have died of drowning or something else. It was & emergency, who do U run to get a permit from the whole town was picking up leaving? Who would have thought U needed one? If I was there I probably would have done the same thing. Thinking U R saving the animals.
I guess the Wayne County Animal Control is embarrassed because this woman did what they should of done. This woman should be running the Wayne County Animal Control
“This woman should have been running the Wayne County animal control.”
She should run them out of town.

Ask for a trial by jury and that will make the prosecuter forgo election should they ever attempt to get elected to any position.
